We all take for granted that when there’s an uncontrolled fire, accident or medical emergency, there is help at the end of a call to 911. However, without community volunteers this help would not be possible.
Benjamin Franklin is credited with starting the first Volunteer Fire Department in 1736 in the city of Philadelphia where volunteers from the community worked together to protect their homes from fire.
Since then the tradition of the volunteer fire service has grown across the country with over 70% of the fire departments in America being 100% volunteers. In Greene County, NY all Fire departments are 100% volunteers working together to provide help when needed.
There is no greater or longer running expression of volunteerism in the United States than the volunteer fire service. Unfortunately over the last 20 years, the number of volunteers has dropped, making it harder to provide the help needed.
Volunteering in the fire service gives you a sense of accomplishment, achievement, pride and looks great on your resume. There are always new skills to learn, new friends to make and being part of a family that gives back to the community and provides help when needed.
Whether on scene or behind the scenes we could use your support!
We have six primary types of positions available and will provide the necessary training to achieve your desired one;
